About the team…

The Tigershark Swim Team is a nine-week summer league competitive swimming program open to any boy or girl between the ages of 4 and 18 (as of June 1st) who can meet the basic swimming requirements.

The team members generally reside in Herrin and Carterville School Districts, but some also come from other towns. Swimmers who reside in towns without teams are eligible to join the Tigersharks.                   

About Registration

Registration fees are as follows: 

1st Swimmer   $90

2nd Swimmer   $65

Each Additional Swimmer $55

This is a family oriented team. Parents are expected to volunteer at swim meets.

Practices

Regular practices and swim meet participation are required. Practices are held Monday through Friday at the Harrison Bruce Aquatic Center at the Herrin Park. Ages 11 and up practice from 8am until 10am.  Ages 10 and under practice from 9:30am until 10:30am. Some children will be placed in different groups based on ability, etc. upon coach's discretion only.

About The Competition

The swim team competes in the Southern Illinois Swim League along with teams from Anna, Carbondale, Du Quoin, Marion, Mt. Vernon, and Salem.  Dual meets (meets between the Tigersharks and one other team) are scheduled on many Tuesday and Thursday evenings.   Invitational meets (meets held with multiple teams) are held on Saturdays. There are additional fees to swim in the Invitational Meets and those fees must be paid before the entry deadline (usually the Sunday before the meet, but not always. as the host team sets this deadline)  A complete list of all events is listed on our website.  A Championship team is selected at the end of the season and will compete in the Southern Illinois Swim League Championships on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Marion (RSVP for this is due the Friday before. No exceptions).

RSVP: In order for the coach to create a line-up he/she needs to know who is swimming in the meet  It takes several hours to do a line-up properly and for this reason it is imperative that you RSVP on time.  

For dual meets the RSVP feature shuts down a few days before.  The reason for this is because the morning of the meet is spent preparing for the meet that evening.  Cards are made, heat sheets are printed etc...

For Invitational meets the RSVP feature typically shuts down the Friday the week before the meet.  The reason for this is because the host team typically (not always-sometimes earlier) requires our entries the Sunday night before the meet. Host teams typically have 7-10 other teams attending and the week before is very busy so they want to have everything ready to go to the printer by Tue/Wed..  Also, some teams do not allow deck entries.  This means that once the entries have been sent we are not allowed to add to that list. This also means that if you sign up for the meet and don't show up, you are still responsible for paying those fees.

Qualifying for Herrin Tigersharks Championship Team

Championship team will be decided based solely on times.  In accordance with SISL rules, a swimmer MUST HAVE swam in three sanctioned meets (Invitationals and/or dual meets) before July 19th in order to qualify for the Championship Team.

About the Coaches 

This is our fourth year with Johnathan Crouse as a coach.  Johnathan is a certified lifeguard and has over a decade of competitive swimming experience!  We are happy to have him back!

Leslie Samples is our assistant coach.  She is a certified lifeguard and has two sons who swim competitively year-round.  We are happy to have her join our coaching staff this year.
